Welcome to the 2010 spring softball season. Our mission is to provide a positive and safe environment for girls to participate in friendly competition, develop athletic skills and build self-esteem while learning to play the game of fast pitch softball. The League is dedicated to the principles of teamwork, sportsmanship, friendship, leadership and citizenship. All managers, coaches, players andparents will strive to live by these principles both on and off the fields.

PYSA Mandatory Pitcher Face Mask Announcement

PYSA Players & Families:

In an effort to provide for a higher level of safety for all PYSA players, the PYSA Board has recently approved a mandatory league requirement that all pitchers in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U divisions wear a pitcher / defensive face mask anytime they are at the pitcher’s position during live pitch situations (this includes games, scrimmages and practices). The league is also recommending that other players and families strongly consider the use of these face masks while playing infield positions. There will obviously be an adjustment period for some players and vanity concerns may be a common complaint, but the safety benefits of face masks are hard to disregard.

PYSA will provide one face mask (Rip It brand) as part of each team’s equipment bag to be shared by pitchers who do not have their own face mask. If any of you are interested in purchasing a personal face mask, PYSA’s Equipment Manager is willing to facilitate the purchase of face mask at a discounted rate thru a local softball vendor. There are several types of face mask on the market Rip It, Game Face, D Mask, their prices range from $35 to $49 retail. All of them have their pros and cons, but the most important quality of a good face mask is that the player “likes it and will actually wear it”. PYSA will have order forms and several types of face masks on display during the player evaluations next weekend, if you are interested in a discounted rate you will need to bring a check and place your order next weekend. Otherwise, there are several local vendors and/or internet sites that offer these face masks as well.

Any questions related to face masks can be directed to Jeff Peter at (619) 942-1483.
